Chemical Reaction Types :]

Types of Chemical Reactions. Now that you know that a chemical equation represents a type of chemical reaction, you can classify each reaction into one of four categories. The type of reaction is based on how the reactants change as they undergo a reaction and yield products.

Synthesis: two or more elements or compounds combine to form a more complex substance
A + B ---> AB

Decomposition: a compound breaks down into simpler substances
AB ---> A + B

Single Replacement: one element replaces another in a compound
A + BC ---> AC + B

Double Replacement: elements in one compound trade places with elements in another compound
AB + CD ---> AD + CB
